March 22,2010 :
Puthur Sheela Jayakrishnan (47), (wife of V. Jyakrishnan, businessman), Palghat was murdered by a burglar gang of three persons stabbing her in the presence of her mother Karthiyayani Amma (70), who was also seriously injured in the attack on March 22, 2010 around noon.

March 28, 2010: Sampath (26) from Karinkirappilly near Palakkad town had worked in the mobile showroom of Jayakrishnan, husband of the deceased Sheela for a few days. He was arrested along with 2 others (Kanakaraj and Manikandan) of Coimbatore.
March 30, 2010: Sampath, 26 died in police custody.

Chargesheet in the case was filed by DySP M.K.Pushkaran on June 22, 2010 and the trial began on December 17, 2010. Jugment was pronounced on May 21, 2011.

Palakkad Additional Sessions Judge P.K. Haneefa found the second accused Kanakaraj guilty in the Puthur Sheela murder case. The third accused Manikandan was acquitted.

II. Custodial death of Sampath
2010
Sampath (26) arrested on March 28, 2010 in the Puthoor Sheela case, died allegedly from custodial torture on March 29, 2010 at Riverside Cottage, Malampuzha. The Range IG had reportedly stated that Sampath died of chest pain while being taken to hospital.
Custodial death of Sampath was investigated by Crime Branch (under Unnirajan, SP). According to the Crime Branch, fourteen policemen were accused in the case.

The court observed that 'the investigation by the State Police has turned out to be a mockery.... The case diary revealed that after brutally torturing Sampath to death, steps were taken immediately to manipulate records such as the general diary, sentry relief book, prisoners search register, etc. at the behest of the police office officers to make it appear that Sampath was directly brought to the North police station in Palakkad only on the night of March 29, 2010 and that he developed chest pain while in cutody and died on the way to the hospital.'

CBI files chargesheet against four accused police officers and a contractor. The accused chargesheeted are:
1) C.K.Ramachandran, Dy SP, 2) P.V.Ramesh, SI Palakkad Town North Police Station, 3) TN Unnikrishnan, SI Palakkad Town South Police Station and 4)Shyama Prasad, civil police officer of the Crime Detachment. 5) Binu Itoop, a contractor and close friend of CK Ramachandran,DySP was also chargesheeted.

Principal Sessions Court, Ernakulam (Judge B. Kemal Pasha) slammed CBI for not arresting ADGP Mohammed Yasin and DIG Vijay Sakhare, accused in the case.
CBI returned the non-bailable arrest warrants unexecuted.
